Licensed Group Child Care – School Age
Notes
A Licensed School Age program operates in a licensed facility and provides daycare services for school age children, typically both before and after school hours. The ration of adults to children in a school age setting is 1 adult/12 children. Some programs may have teachers trained in Early Childhood Education and Care, or will have care providers that meet licensing requirements of a Responsible Adult.
Licensed Multi-Age Group Child Care
Notes
A Licensed Multi-Aged program operates in a licensed facility and provides daycare services for children 0-5 years of age. The ratio of adults to children in a multi-aged setting is 1 adult/8 children. Teachers are trained in Early Childhood Education and Care. Multi-aged settings are a lovely alternative to the larger group child care settings as they provide opportunities for sibling groupings and a smaller environment in which children can play and learn.
Licensed Preschool
Notes
A Licensed Preschool program operates in a licensed facility and provides a half day program for young children 3-5 years. As with full day programs, preschool curriculums will differ but all aim to provide optimum learning and play opportunities for young children. Similar to full day programs, half day preschool programs support children’s interest in learning by providing as safe, secure, and developmentally appropriate environment. Preschool teachers are trained in the field of Early Childhood Education and Care.

Nutritionist

The Community Nutritionist will consult with communities, as well as provide information on nutrition, health promotion and advocacy. To contact the Nutritionist please call your local health unit or the contact number below.
Dietitian Services at HealthLink BC (formerly known as Dial-A-Dietitian) provides nutrition information for British Columbians via ww.healthlinkbc.ca/dietitian or by calling 8-1-1 and asking to speak with a Register Dietitian.
Dietitian Services specializes in nutrition information based on the most current scientific sources.

Occasional Child Care
Notes
Occasional child care is available for children 18 months to 6 years of age. A child may be enrolled in occasional child care no more than 8 hours per day and no more than 40 hours per calendar month. The adult to child ration for children 0-36 months is 1 adult/y children. The adult to child ration for children 36 months and up is 1 adult/8 children. Care providers in occasional care setting meet the licensing requirements of a Responsible Adult and are not required to be trained teachers in Early Childhood Education and Care.
Occupational Therapy for children 0-6
Notes
The Occupational Therapist provides support to help the child develop the skills needed to carry out activities of daily life such as eating, dressing, toileting, play and learning. The Occupational therapist will assist the child in gaining motor, cognitive and social skills. Referrals can come from the parent, and other ECD professionals. Families must want the referral made. Participation in the program is voluntary and FREE of charge.

Informal drop in program for moms and dads, and their infants. Come and meet other parents and children. Public Health Nurses are available to weigh and measure your baby and assist you with your Questions and concerns. Speakers are often invited to share information and resources with families. Toddler and Preschool Storytime: This is a fun storytime filled with great books, rhymes, puppetry and songs! Meet new faces and make friends with other caregivers and children.
Parent Infant Drop-In for parents with infants 0-12 months. it is facilitated by a public health nurse and runs on Mondays in the Children’s Library.
